Abstract

Background : Stunting is a problem a nutritional deficiency (undernutrition) that occur most frequently in children. Stunting in children is a reflection of the family's socioeconomic status which is measured as a combination of education, employment and parent income.The prevalence of children with low height or stunting at Muhammadiyah 3 Elementary School Surakarta was 21.17%. Research Method: Cross Sectional research design with research samples of new children school in Muhammadiyah 3 Elementary School Surakarta as many as 40 students selected with Simple Random sampling. Data on family socioeconomic status which includes education, employment and parental income is obtained using a questionnaire filled by respondents. Height data is obtained by direct measurement to school children using mikrotoise. Data were analyzed using Chi Square correlation test with alternative test using Fisher's Exact Test. Results: Based on Fisher’s Exact Test, the family socioeconomic status in terms of mother and father education level, employment status of mother and father and income of parents with child height obtained p-value of 0.003; 0.088; 1,000; 1,000 and 0,128 Conclusion: There is a relationship between socioeconomic status of the family according to the level of education of the mother with child height, there is no relationship between the family's socioeconomic status according to the level of education of the father with child height, there is no relationship between family's socioeconomic status according to the employment status of the mother and father with child height, and there is no relationship between family's socioeconomic status according to the income level of parents with child height.
