Abstract

ABSTRACT Academic integrity is a major part of academic culture. It is regarded as a form of adherence to some principles. As a college student, it must be obeyed. However, in reality not all students have undergone all aspect of academic integrity, so it’s so worrying. This study aims to understand and describe student’s academic integrity in private collage. Research subjects or informants in this study amounted to 12 collage students who have never leave from semesters one till five, consisting of three male students and three female students from psychology faculty, in addition there are three male students and three female students from pharmacy faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta was 18 to 25 years old. This study uses descriptive-qualitative approach of phenomenology and data collection using semi structured interview. Interview guides are prepared based on research questions using aspects of academic integrity such as honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility. The technique used in this study is an interactive technique consisting of four stages that must be implemented including data collection stage, data reduction stage, data display stage, and conclusion or verification stage. The result of this study show that student of private collage highly upholding the values of academic integrity in their collage, with various insights to express that integrity is a form of student responsibility. Some students mentioned that academic integrity as a form of student professionalism and form totality of students to the values of academic integrity itself. Many informants also explain the problems of academic integrity that are often encountered as many of the students still commit academic fraud, violating a norm of honesty, such as cheating or plagiarism.
