Abstract
Concrete brick or more familiar we called as paving block, is one of the top road finishing layer as asphalt/ flexible pavement and rigid pavement alternative. Paving block is very interesting because it is an environmentally-friendly pavement construction which is helping infiltration (percolation). Paving block has a mixed composition of portland cement, water and aggregate with or without other additives. One of the main ingredients that has the influence as a binder with other materials on the paving block is portland cement. Then another alternative binder that is limestone. Both materials have almost the same chemical element as a binder. The similarity of chemical elements is that there is a chemical element Calcium Oxide (CaO) which has a function as a hydraulic binder. Paving block in this research was used as a test specimen made using a hydraulic press machine with a variation of 1: 4, 1: 6, 1: 8 ratio with 10% lime addition on each test specimen and then spay with water in the morning and afternoon for maintenance 21 days. The effect of the addition of 10% lime in the mixture of paving block on the mixed variation of 1: 4 is obtained by the maximum compressive strength in mixed variation (1 Pc + 10% limestone): 4 Ps is 12.222 MPa with minimum water absorption of 9.420 %. From the results of this research, it can be concluded that paving block can enter in the paving block quality D which is used for garden and other usage. So in the next research is expected to research to try various variations of lime addition. lime functioned as a substitute for cement as a binder so that the economic aspect resulted from the replacement of cement into lime as a binder.
