Abstract

The interpersonal power possessed by the character Gellert Grindelwald in the film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore can be a picture of how a leader shows his power side in influencing others. This study aims to understand the acceptance of meaning by generation Z towards the interpersonal power possessed by Gellert Grindelwald as a leader figure in the film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. This study uses Stuart Hall's Reception Analysis theory to understand the coding and decoding process in the show. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research using the Reception Analysis method by Stuart Hall. A total of 6 informants included in the generation Z category were obtained through purposive sampling which then became the sample of this study. Data collection using interview techniques as primary sources and literature studies as secondary sources, then the data was analyzed using Reception Analysis by Stuart Hall which refers to the coding-decoding process. The validity of the research data uses theory triangulation, namely comparing it with relevant theories to avoid individual researcher bias. The results of this study show 3 audience positions in the media receiving messages about the Fantastic Beast : The Secrets of Dumbledore film. 4 informants dominant hegemony positions. While 2 informants occupy opposition positions. Factors that influence this perception are the leadership patterns adopted and the self-principles held by the informants. For the majority results, namely dominant hegemony, then analyzed into 3 categories and it can be concluded that as a generation Z who has high empathy and innovation, Gellert Grindelwald's interpersonal power is considered unfair, limits the space for its members to do various things, and does not respect the desires and rights of living beings.
