Abstract
Students' aggressive behavior can be caused by being faced with unpleasant situations or circumstances in their environment. Students who carry out aggressive behavior are influenced by several factors, namely emotional intelligence or emotional maturity and social support. Students who are unstable and less emotionally mature can more easily develop aggressive behavior than those who are emotionally mature. Lack of social support for students can further increase student behavior. Social support such as a sense of wanting to be appreciated, accepted, and motivated are external factors that play a major role in student aggressive behavior. The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and social support on aggressive behavior in students. The main hypothesis of this research is that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and social support and aggressive behavior. The minor hypotheses of this research are (1) there is a significant negative relationship between emotional intelligence and aggressive behavior; (2) there is a significant negative relationship between social influence and aggressive behavior. This research is a correlational quantitative research. The research population was UMS students from the 2020 – 2023 class aged 18 – 25 years. Sampling using simple random sampling technique obtained a sample of 100 respondents. Aggression behavior scale, emotional intelligence scale and social support scale were included in the data collection method. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression. The results of this research show that the mayor hypothesis has an F value of 23.710 with sig. 0.000 < 0.05 means there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and social support on aggressive behavior, it can be concluded that the main hypothesis of this research is accepted. The results of the analysis of minor hypothesis I show a correlation value of -0.455, meaning there is a negative relationship between emotional intelligence and aggressive behavior. The results of the minor hypothesis II analysis also show a correlation value of -0.455, meaning there is a negative relationship between social support and aggressive behavior.
