Abstract
Umbulharjo Sub-district has been established as the largest waste-contributing sub-district in the city of Yogyakarta. According to earlier research, among the seven sub-districts examined, Umbulharjo Sub-district had the most illegal TPS. Therefore, it is important to continue researching the issue of urban waste. This study aims to (1) analyze the estimated volume of daily household and commercial waste in Umbulharjo Sub-district, (2) determine suggestion for new TPS (temporary waste disposal) location to serve the demands of existing TPS. To obtain the necessary parameters, this study employs primary data that has been extracted from remote sensing imagery (Wordview). Parameters used in the volume estimation analysis were house size, settlement patterns and number of houses, while the TPS recommendation location parameters were distance to settlements and distance to roads. This study use survey method. The sample to determine the average daily waste volume is selected by proportional stratified random sampling technic. In geographic information systems, overlay analysis was used to identify the characteristics of the settlement used in the calculation of volume estimation, and buffer analysis to determine the area's suitability in providing TPS recommendations. The analysis indicated that the daily household waste volume in the Umbulharjo Sub-district was 998,89 m3/day and the daily commercial waste volume was 197,8 m3/day. This leaves a total estimated daily waste volume of 1,196.69 m3/day. The large number of quantities is in line with the previously calculated land use area, which is 412.03 hectares or 49.8% of the total area used for residential housing. Three classes emerged from the analysis of the site of TPS, namely the unsuitable class covering an area of 519.3 hectares, the moderately suitable class of 255.6 hectares, and the very suitable class of 33.67 hectares. It is advised to build TPS on the 289.27 hectares which is most widely distributed in Muja-muju, Semaki, and Giwangan, that fall into the "moderately suitable and highly suitable" categories.
