Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the ballistic performance of armor with High – Strength Steel and Aluminum 7075 – T6 panels on the criteria of Depth of Penetration (DOP), deflection, and Velocity Ballistic Limit (Vbl). And to get bullet panels with strong resistance. This research is based on the finite element method using ANSYS / Explicit Dynamic Software with the AUTODYN 18.1 solver. To find out the accuracy of this simulation, it is necessary to verificate with simulation data by N.A. Rahman et al. This simulation modeling is simplified into 2D Axisymmetric. The ballistic testing of this armor uses panels with High – Strength Steel and Aluminum 7075 – T6 material. To determine the mechanical behavior of metallic materials, the test uses Johnson and Cook parameters. The panel structure was varied into speed and thickness using panel codes Hs12, Hs17 Al13, Hs10 Al10, HS10 Al5, Hs5 Al10 and Hs5 Al5. From the simulation test results, the best panel configuration is obtained on the Hs17 Al13 panel with a Depth of Penetration DOP value of 21.61 mm, a large deflection of 0.73 mm, and has the largest Vbl value of 985.5 m/s, the greater the Vbl value, the better the resistance of the panel.
