Abstract

This study is fully functioning person in The Girl in the Park. For the reason that positive self concept helps to cope with the traumatic experience. It is done by establishing two objectives: the first is analyzing the movie based on its structural element and the second is analyzing the movie based on the sociological approach. This research is qualitative research, Type, of data of the study is text and image taken from two data sources: primary and secondary. The primary data source is The Girl in the Park by David Auburn released in 2007. While the secondary data source are other material taken from books, journals and internet related to the study. Both the data are collected through library research and analyzed by descriptive analysis. The study comes to the following conclusion. First, based on the structural analysis, it is evident that in the movie, David Auburn conveys a message that positive self concept helps to cope with the traumatic experience. Second, based on the Humanistic analysis, it is clear that the director illustrates a psychological phenomenon in which an individual is trying to cope with the traumatic experience.
