Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Austenizing - Quenching - Tempering - Holding Time on the SEM-EDS Test of Gray Cast Iron Materials Permanently Molded. The casting material from the permanent mold is then cut and then a heat treatment process is carried out. In the heat treatment process, the austenizing temperature used is 950°C with a holding time of 2 hours. The quenching process uses a cooling medium in the form of water. The temperature of the tempering process is 300°C with a holding time of 2 hours, then the specimen is cooled in the furnace. The results of testing the chemical composition using a spectrometer can be concluded that there are 4 alloying elements that affect the hardness of the gray cast iron material, namely Carbon (C) 3.190%, Silicon (Si) 1.743%, Manganese (Mn) 0.398%, and Phosphorus (P) 0.194%. . The results of the highest Vickers hardness value for raw material specimens of gray cast iron from permanent molds were 328.69 VHN, and gray cast iron specimens with AQTH heat treatment of 118.83 VHN. In the SEM-EDS test of gray cast iron material with AQTH heat treatment, at 5000x magnification it is seen that the microstructure of the graphite phase is more dominant than the other phases that appear.
