Abstract

Mr. Wahyono's red brick small-medium industry (SMI) is one of the many SMIs in the red brick manufacturing center of Waru Village, Baki District, Sukoharjo Regency which still carries out the production process using traditional equipment. Molding work station operators work with non-ergonomic postures and have the potential for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) to occur, thus requiring corrective action at the work station. This study aims to design a more ergonomic and efficient red brick molder, to reduce the risk of operator work postures and speed up the production process. This research uses the axiomatic design method and integrates it with the design and product development stages of Ulrich & Eppinger. At the product concept development stage, 5 alternative design solutions were obtained and solution 2 was determined as the chosen design solution. The solution is designed and tested virtually. The REBA score test is 1, which means that the red molding job uses a design tool with a risk level that can be ignored and does not require corrective action. From the designed specifications, this tool can save molding time up 92,5% of molding time using traditional tools.
