Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding has benefits for babies including to improve the immune system in infants and reduce the risk of infection and infectious diseases. Although exclusive breastfeeding has benefits for babies, unfortunately, there are many mothers in Indonesia who do not give breastfeeding to their babies exclusively. There are various factors that can affect exclusive breastfeeding. Mother’s knowledge is one of the most dominant factors for exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between mother’s knowledge with exclusive breastfeeding practices in Indonesia. The research method used was literature (narrative) review. The research design applied to journal articles was cross-sectional with the Sinta index S1-S4 and the Q1-Q4 Scopus index. Inclusion criteria used in selecting articles were cross-sectional research designs in the form of full text, written in Indonesian or English, published within the last 10 years (2011-2021), indexed Sinta (S1-S4) or indexed Scopus. This study took exclusive breastfeeding as dependent variable and independent variable of mother's knowledge. The results of the review based on 10 journal articles showed that 7 journal articles had a significant correlation between mother’s knowledge and the practice of breastfeeding exclusively, while the other 3 articles showed no significant correlation. As for the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding, the lowest was 14.5% and the highest was 82.1%. Some respondents have low knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding. Mother’s knowledge was one of the determining factors of the mother in carrying out exclusive breastfeeding practices to the babies.
