Abstract

Brick or molded lightweight concrete is concrete whose aggregate is replaced with lightweight aggregate such as fine aggregate, cement and water with a certain mixture ratio. Brick is one of the choices of various kinds of covering the structure of a building, the brick is more practical and more efficient installation time. In this study, it was developed by comparing the material from fine aggregate (sand) with waste concrete. The purpose of this research is to find out how maximal the concrete blocks with waste concrete are compared to conventional bricks. The tests include the compressive strength, flexural strength and water absorption of the bricks. This study used a brick test object with a size of 10cm x 20cm x 40cm to test the flexural strength and air absorption. As for the compressive strength using a cube test object with a size of 7cm x 7cm x 7cm. The total number of specimens is 60 test objects, using a mixture composition of 1:3 mixture; 1:4 : 1:5 and 1:6 for bricks with waste concrete while for conventional bricks 1:6 and 1:7. The specimens were left in the laboratory room for 28 days after being tested to be strong, strong and flexible. Based on the research, it was found that the hail compressive strength of concrete blocks with the best waste was 10,143 MPa with a composition of 1:3, while the best value for conventional brick was 11,841 MPa with a composition of 1:6. For testing the flexural strength in a standing position, the best value for concrete blocks is 0.80 MPa with a composition of 1:3, while the best value for conventional bricks is 0.72 MPa. In the water absorption test, the best value for concrete blocks is 2.35%, while for conventional bricks the best value is 3.85%.
