Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin action or both. One of the risk factors for diabetes mellitus, especially type 2, is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle, especially diet. One of the components of food that is good for diabetes mellitus patients is fiber. Red rice is a carbohydrate with a high fiber content. Red rice also has a lower glycemic index than white rice. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the effectiveness of antidiabetic activity seen from the decrease in blood glucose levels in several forms or the treatment of giving red rice. This literature review was compiled by searching for articles in the Google Scholar database using keywords to search for Indonesian articles, namely “red rice” AND antidiabetic AND “rat”, as many as 305 articles were displayed. While the search for articles with the keywords "red rice" AND antidiabetic AND "rat" displayed 360 articles. The inclusion criteria in this literature review are the 2016-2021 article publication years that discuss in vivo rat tests with blood glucose lowering activity in several forms or red rice treatment and the article is free full text. After screening, 2 articles were obtained. The results of the analysis showed that red rice sprouted flour was more effective in lowering blood glucose levels than red rice flour.
