Abstract

Students who choose to study in an area that has a different cultural background from the culture of origin can present many challenges, one of which is having to adapt to their new environment. A good self-concept will certainly make it easier for students from West Kalimantan to adapt to the new culture. The adaptive behavior in question is the student's effort to adapt to his new environment. Social adjustment is considered to be successful if it is supported by a good self-concept. The purpose of this study was to see how self-concept affects the cultural adaptation process of overseas students from West Kalimantan. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach and the results of this study indicate that aspects of self-concept, namely physical aspects, psychological aspects, social aspects, and moral aspects are the basis for determining self-assessment/image. positive self, making it easier for them to adapt in the city of Surakarta while studying. Having a positive self- concept is very helpful in cultural adaptation, especially overseas students must survive in a new environment until their study period is complete.
