Abstract

"Aging" is the process of slowly disappearing the ability of the tissue to repair or replace itself, maintain its normal structure and function so that it cannot withstand injury (including infection) and repair the damage suffered. Along with increasing age, without realizing it will experience changes that can cause disturbances such as sleep disorders. The elderly face many problems such as decreased sleep periods which cause the elderly to tend to wake up more easily from sleep. Sleep is a physiological need that affects the quality and life balance. Poor sleep quality can be a risk factor for physical and psychological problems. Physical activity or moving is any body movement that increases the expenditure of energy and energy. The aging process in the elderly can have an impact on the limitations of the elderly in carrying out activities. This limitation causes a decrease in the level of health. Objective: to determine the relationship between sleep quality and physical activity with blood pressure in the elderly. Methods: using a literature review, the author reviews 7 journals by selecting journals published in the last 10 years, in English, journals that are open access, journals with a quartile index Schimago of at least Q4, journals with research subjects, namely the elderly aged 60-90 years, and journal that discusses sleep quality with elderly blood pressure or physical activity with elderly blood pressure. Results: Poor sleep quality can alter blood pressure response and increase the risk of hypertension. Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Regular exercise and physical activity prevent the negative effects of aging, not only by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammation, but also by exerting additional antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The combined endurance and strength exercise has significant results and is suitable for the elderly, especially for the elderly with hypertension because it can reduce blood pressure, increase antioxidant capacity and reduce oxidative stress. Conclusion: The results of a review of the seven journals stated that there was a relationship between sleep quality and physical activity with blood pressure in the elderly.
