Abstract

The prevalence of diarrhea in toddler in Central Java Province has increased from 5.4% in 2013 to 11.1% in 2018. Exclusive breastfeeding can prevent diarrhea because it contains antibodies that can increase the baby's immune response. This study aims to determine the correlation between the practice of giving exclusive breastfeeding with the incidence of diarrhea in babies aged 0-6 months in Central Java Province. This study was a cross sectional approach. The data used is secondary data from the 2018 National Basic Health Research Results Report. The research instrument used a questionnaire from Riskesdas 2018, namely RKD18.IND K32, K33, K36, K37, K38, K39, K40, K41, K42, K43 and K44 the exclusive breastfeeding practice questionnaire and RKD18.IND A13 the diarrhea incidence questionnaire. Data analysis used Chi Square. The results showed that the most of the research subjects received exclusive breastfeeding; 55,1% and 94,3% didn’t experience diarrhea. Research subjects who received exclusive breastfeeding and didn’t experience diarrhea were 97,3%. Research subjects who were not exclusively breastfed had a 3.47 times greater risk of developing diarrhea than who were exclusively breastfed. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a correlation between the practice of exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of diarrhea (p = 0.000). The incidence of diarrhea in infants who received non-exclusive breastfeeding was higher than who received exclusive breastfeeding. It was expected that all mothers continue to give exclusive breastfeeding so that the incidence of diarrhea can be prevented.
