Abstract

The objectives of this development research include: (1) Developing the Assessment Instrument of Science HOTS on the Material of Temperature and Heat for Grade VII of SMP/MTs (2) Knowing the feasibility of Assessment Instrument of Science HOTS on the Material of Temperature and Heat for Grade VII of SMP/MTs based on the evaluation of science material experts, evaluation instrument experts and six viewers of junior high school science teacher (3) Knowing the validity, reliability, deviation standar and difficulty level of the developed assessment instruments after being tested only for sevent grade students of SMP/ MTs in Gemolong District. This development research used a development model that refer to the Borg & Gall model, but the research procedure was modified according to the needs in this study including: (1) the definition stage (define) (2) the design stage (design) (3) the development stage (develop) and (4) limited product test phase (operational field testing limit). Data collection techniques used in the form of literacy studies, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Quantitative data were analyzed into descriptive qualitative with ideal assessment criteria for every aspect of the developed assessment instrument HOTS of science. This research produces a product for the Assessment Instrument Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) of Science on the Material of Temperature and Heat for Grade VII SMP/MTs. The assessment instrument consists of ten HOTS questions of science with thinking levels C4 to C6. The results of content validation (theoretical), the instrument developed has a very good category (SB) according to material experts, has a very good category (SB) according to learning evaluation experts, and has a very good category (SB) according to six (6) science teacher reviewers. The results of the item analysis obtained good validity data with an average r bis value of 0.431, middle reliability with a Guttman Split-Half coefficient of 0.573, the discrepancy has a good category with values ranging from 0.446 to 0.609, the difficulty level has three (3) items in the difficult category and seven (7) questions in the medium category, and the distractor function works well. Based on the results of content validation (theoretical) and item analysis, the assessment instrument HOTS of Science developed met the criteria for good questions and was suitable to be used as an assessment instrument in the learning process or as a reference in the preparation of the HOTS instrument.
