Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding sengon wood charcoal powder as a sand substitute on testing the compressive strength, flexural strength and water absorption of paving blocks using the pyramidal pressure method using Portland cement type 1 Portland pozzoland Cement (PPC) Semen Bima and sengon wood powder charcoal. The type of test object is paving block measuring 20 cm x 10 cm, and 6 cm thick. (SNI 03-0691-1996) with the percentage of sengon sawdust charcoal as an aggregate mixture of 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% of the weight of the sand. The optimum compressive strength in the paving block test with the 0% mixed pyramid pressure plate compression method obtained a value of 29.944 MPa. a mixture of sengon wood charcoal powder with pyramid pressure method with a percentage of 5% of 17,556 MPa. According to the provisions of SNI 030691-1996, the results of the compressive strength are classified as quality B. The minimum percentage of water absorption in the test of paving blocks mixed with sengon wood charcoal powder using the pyramidal pressure method is classified as quality A paving blocks. While the water absorption percentage is 5% of the mixture of sengon wood charcoal powder using the method ordinary pressing and the percentage of 10% and 15% of a mixture of sengon wood charcoal powder with the ordinary pressing method and the pyramid suppression method, the water absorption values above 3% and below 6% are classified as quality B paving blocks. pyramidal pressure with a mixture of 0% sengon wood charcoal powder gets a value of 9.083 MPa., while the highest flexural strength value is at a percentage of 5% with the pyramid pressure plate suppression method of 6.750 MPa. from the test results obtained, it is concluded that the addition of sengon wood charcoal powder can be a mixed material in the manufacture of paving blocks by paying attention to the composition of the paving block mixture, and the pyramid pressure plate suppression method is able to affect the average value of the compressive strength test, water absorption and flexural strength in paving blocks.
