Abstract

Background: Musculoskeletal pain in the neck is a health problem in modern society. Musculoskeletal pain in the neck is pain that includes abnormalities of the nerves, tendons, muscles, and ligaments around the neck. These symptoms can include pain, muscle spasms and result in limitation of motion in the neck. Physiotherapy as a component of health care can play an active role in efforts to reduce pain, spasm, increase the range of motion of the joints (LGS) and restore the patient's functional ability to improve the quality of life. Physiotherapy can use the Cervical Traction modality. Objectives: To find out how the modality of treatment can reduce pain and increase functional activity in cases of Cervical Root Syndrome and find out how the management of Cervical Traction modalities can reduce pain and increase functional activity in cases of Cervical Root Syndrome. Methods: This type of research uses a literature study method. The data used is secondary data, data obtained from Pubmed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect & PEDro by inputting the keywords "Neck", "Traction" or "Neck Pain". The journals used must be in accordance with the PICO star and 6 articles that meet the requirements are obtained. Articles that meet the criteria are carried out data extraction, data review, appraisal stage using the PEDro scale and then drawing conclusions. Results: Results of 6 reviewed journals found several models of cervical traction that can reduce neck pain. Manual cervical traction is a technique in which the therapist grasps the cervical segments to be treated manually and by pulling body resistance. Mechanical traction in its application uses a loading dose based on body weight, this loading dose formula usually starts from 10% body weight to 15% body weight. The physiological effect of using manual cervical traction modality or using mechanical traction is to directly relieve the cause of pain, namely repositioning the protruding disc so that irritation of the posterior longitudinal ligament due to disc pressure can be released. Conclusion: Based on the results of studies that have been carried out on the influence of the concept of cervical traction in influencing pain reduction, it can be concluded that cervical traction has various methods, which can be combined with various exercise instruments to provide significant results in improvement.
