Abstract

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in a toddler due to chronic malnutrition so that the toddler is too short for their age. TB/U indicators can identify toddler who are short because they are malnourished for a long time or often experience pain. Infectious disease status is one of the factors that can affect the nutritional status of TB/U. The length of time a child suffers from an infection can result in decreased nutritional status. 16,46% toddler’s had stunting in Ngadirojo Kidul village in 2020, 9,67% had diarrhea and 14,46% had acute respiratory infections. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between lengths of diarrhea and acute respiratory infections with nutritional status of toddlers in Ngadirojo Kidul Village, Ngadirojo District of Wonogiri Regency. This research is observational with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 334 toddlers aged 24-59 months in Ngadirojo Kidul Village and a sample of 52 toddlers was obtained by proportional random sampling. The nutritional status of TB/U was obtained through direct anthropometric measurements, data on length of sick days was obtained by direct interviews once a month using a questionnaire within the last 3 months and environmental health data were obtained using a questionnaire. Normality test of variables used Kolmogorov-smirnov and data analysis used Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The length of sick days was categorized based on the median value of the total length of sick days for 3 months which was 18. The data was said short if it was <18 days and high if it was >18 days. The proportion of toddlers who had a short length of sick days was 81,50% with normal nutritional status, while toddlers who had a high length of sick days were 48,00% with severely stunted nutritional status. The nutritional status of toddlers was 30,80% severely stunted and 13,50% stunted. The result of correlation tests stated the value of p=0,001 and r=-0,459. There was a correlation between lengths of diarrhea and acute respiratory infections with nutritional status of toddlers in Ngadirojo Kidul Village, Ngadirojo District of Wonogiri Regency.
