Abstract

Debt behavior is a willingness of individuals to make uncommon expenses despite money is being low by borrowing from other people or financial institutions. There are several aspects that influence debt behavior including the inability to adjust expenses with income; reluctance to maintain expenditure according to income level; and willingness to make unusual expenses. Compulsive buying is excessive and uncontrolled shopping behavior that can cause individuals to have debt behavior in order to fulfill their shopping desires. This study aims to determine the relationship between compulsive buying and online loans. This study uses a quantitative approach. The subjects of this research are students and individuals who have worked in early adulthood who are domiciled on the island of Java, totaling of 200 respondents. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The data collection tools used in this study are the Compulsive Buying scale and the Debt Behavior 2 scale. the method of collecting the data uses a questionnaire through Google Form. Testing the validity of the data using expert judgment techniques. The data analysis method uses moment product analysis. Based on the correlation data analysis, the coefficient value (rxy) is 0.711 and sig. (p) of 0.000 (p <0.01) which indicates that there's a very significant positive relationship between compulsive buying and online loans in early adulthood, and the correlation of compulsive buying shows a positive relationship with debt behavior in early adulthood. The results of the R square test obtained a value of 0.711 which means that Compulsive Purchases have an effect of 50.5% on online loans. The rate of compulsive purchases and online loans in Java is in the low category.
