Abstract

Drainage is one of the main factors contributing to road damages. Bad drainage which cannot hold water properly will spill water into the street, which, coupled with heavy load of traffic, can cause damages to asphalt layer of the road by degrading binding quality of the asphalt. The water which penetrate into the asphalt road can cause cracks and potholes. The potholes will further enforces water into deeper layer of the road and cause further damages. This research was conducted on the street of Prof. Suharso Km. 0 + 000 – Km. 1 + 500, Boyolali, Central Java. The road was categorized District road which is an outer ring road connecting to Surakarta. The road has high traffic load. The research used BinaMarga 2002 as a parameter to measure the damages, outcome analysis MR, ITP value and ESAL value using primary and secondary data. Drainage quality was analyzed using debit analysis as its parameter. The research aims to know the early damage analysis onthe flexible pavement and the impacts of the drainage quality on the flexible pavement. The results of the study showed that from a visual survey of the road, the majority of damages on the street of Prof. Suharso was cracks (66.08%). This condition was resulted from several factors: bad drainage system alongside the road. From the analysis, it was found that the remaining age of the road was 816.63 days, from the supposedly 2.23 years. Seeing the problem, it is needed that a routine road work is conducted on the outer layer of the road. Another solution is patching the potholes and put new layer on top of that.
