Abstract

Introduction: The incidence of low birth weight (LBW) is still a nutritional problem in Indonesia. Low birth weight (LBW) has the risk of increasing fetal and neonatal mortality and morbidity, stunted growth and cognitive development, and chronic disease in later life. The prevalence of LBW in the work area of Puskesmas Gondang tends to increase from 2018 to 2019. Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between the incidence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) and the age of pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight (LBW). Research Methodology: This study used a case-control research design. Respondent data collection used secondary data recorded in labor report data from January 2020-June 2021. The number of samples in this study was 120 respondents with a case group of 30 respondents and a control group of 90 controls with a ratio of 1:3. The analysis was performed univariate and bivariate (Chi square and Fisher exact). Results: The distribution of chronic energy deficiency (CED) is 3,3% of low birth weight (LBW) and 13,3% of normal birth weight (not LBW). The distribution age of pregnant women with a high risk age is 16,7% with low birth weight (LBW) and 28,9% with normal birth weight (not LBW). There was no correlation between the incidence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) and the incidence of low birth weight (LBW) with p-value 0,181. There was no correlation between the age of pregnant women and the incidence of low birth weight (LBW) with p-value 0,185. Conclusion: There was no correlation between the incidence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) and the age of pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight (LBW) in the work area of Puskesmas Gondang.
