Abstract

The results of Riskesdas in 2018, the prevalence of patients with chronic kidney disease based on a doctor's diagnosis in the population aged >15 years is 3,8‰. When the kidneys are damaged, the body is at risk for hyperkalemia. PropoelixTM contains Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) that used to fight oxidative stress and reduce potassium levels. This study to determine the effect of PropoelixTM on potassium levels in CKD rats. This research method is true experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group design. The number of experimental animals used were 28 rats then divided into 4 groups namely K1 (negative control group), K2 (positive control group), K3 (treatment group with PropoelixTM 0.0216 g/200 g BW) and K4 (treatment group with PropoelixTM 0.0432 g/200 g BW). Measurement of potassium levels used the ISE method. The results were analyzed using the One Way Anova test. This study showed a significant decrease in potassium levels in the K3 and K4 groups. The decrease potassium levels in the K3 groups was 13,63% and in the K4 was 27,21%. PropoelixTM at a dose of 0.0216 g/200 g BW rats/day and a dose of 0.0432 g/200 g BW rats/day had a significant effect on increasing body weight and decreasing potassium levels in CKD rats. The administration of PropoelixTM dose of 0.0432 g/200 g BW rats/day had a stronger effect in lowering serum potassium levels compared to dose of 0.0216 g/200 g BW rats/day.
