Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of adding copper mesh 60 powder on spot welded joints using aluminum material. This research conducted 3 tests, namely microstructure, Vickers hardness and SEM-EDX. The results of the microstructure test show that in the base metal area there are large grains, in the HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) area there are smaller grains when compared to the base metal area while in the weld nugget area there are smaller and very dense grains. The results of the Vickers hardness test show that the area that has the highest hardness value is the nugget area, which is 50.14 VHN, then the HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) area is 39.41 VHN, and the lowest is the base metal area, which is 35.36. VHN. The results of the SEM test showed that the copper powder was diffused to the aluminum substrate, the filler was able to fill the empty parts. There are several defects, namely cracks, porosity, and voids. Then the EDX results showed the results of the decreased Al content in the diffusion area due to the content of Cu filler which was able to fill the aluminum area that contained cavities and replace the elements contained in Al. The line analysis indicated several elements, namely Aluminum (Al), Carbon (C), Copper (Cu), and Sodium (Na).
