Abstract

Coconut shells can be easily obtained because of their abundance and for now it is only used charcoal. One of the uses of charcoal is to make briquettes as an alternative fuel in the process utilizing biomass by converting energy from solid raw material (biomass) into syngas (synthesized gas) which can later be used as fuel. One example of gasification being developed is the Updraft system. The purpose of this study was determine the effect of variation in air velocity on flame Temperatur, flame duration, time when water was boiling and to calculated the value of thermal efficiency using the Updraft gasiffer stove. The gasification process is carried out at an flow rate of 13.03;16.65; and 17.97 m/s. The flame Temperatur data collection procedure was carried out every 30 seconds for each variation. The result of this study indicate that the highest flame Temperature is found in the coconut shell charcoal market briquettes, which is 696 C. The fastest time for boiling water is is found in the coconut shell charcoal market briquettes, which is 10 minutes. The best thermal efficiency is found in the coconuut shell charcoal briquettes market, which is 6.5 %.
