Abstract

This research examines the idealism of the body behind the fashion worn by Billie Eilish in her YouTube video clip. The fashion worn by Billie is interesting to research because she uses clothes that do not match her size to cover up how her body looks. The purpose of this research is to describe how the neutrality of the body idealist with fashion by Billie Eilish. The analysis used in this study is a semiotic analysis by Roland Barthes with a qualitative approach. The 5 codes from Roland Barthes which are the reference of this study are symbolic codes because this study observes visuals that contain meaning. The results of the analysis found that Billie wore large clothes and fashion styles that resembled men so that it was not easy for other people to judge how her body shape was covered by large clothes. The fashion worn by Billie is masculine according to the research on connotations, denotations and myths seen in the video clip. Large size sweaters, chain accessories, sneakers and dark colors are masculine meanings that are usually attached to men because women usually wear bright colors. The characteristics of masculinity are strength, aggressiveness, domination, leadership and courage.
