Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of the School Literacy Movement through Reading and Communicative Characters in the Habit of Reading Aloud for Grade 4 Students at SD Negeri Kembang 01.This research was conducted in this research was conducted at SD Negeri Kembang 01 in semester 1 of the 2018/2019 academic year. The data in this study were the ability to read aloud, character assessment of fond of reading and communication skills obtained through observation and in-depth interviews with some participation with the principal, staff of facilities and infrastructure and grade 4 teachers of SD Negeri Kembang 01. The data collection techniques used in This research is observation, interview and documentation. Then the data validity technique used in this study is the triangulation technique. Furthermore, the data analysis technique used in this study is an interactive model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and withdrawal / verification. The results of this study indicate that 1) The implementation of the school literacy movement through the character of fond of reading in the habit of reading aloud for Grade 4 Students at SD Negeri Kembang 01 which is carried out by the teacher is to use a reference book in the library so that students will try to find reading material and the school library. it aims to make students visit the library and be more active in reading. In addition, in the learning process students are also given 15 minutes by the teacher to exchange their reading books after reading with the aim of increasing the knowledge and insights students gain. 2) Obstacles in the implementation of the school literacy movement at SD Negeri Kembang 01 include some students who are less interested in reading so that there are some children who can read aloud and some children who are not fluent in reading aloud. Then another obstacle is the incomplete number of books in the library so that some students look for information outside of school, for example the internet. 3) The solution to the obstacles in the implementation of the school literacy movement at SD Negeri Kembang 01, namely the application of character education to love reading for all students starting from grades I - VI with the aim of creating peaceful and friendly humans. Then another solution to the obstacles to implementing the school literacy movement at SD Negeri Kembang 01 is by implementing a literacy culture that is carried out before the subject and the application of a literacy culture every Thursday which is mandatory for students.
