Abstract

To compile a thesis well, a research must have a problem formulation that is structured specifically, and clearly. With this the formulation of the research problem is; How is the student's thinking process in solving algebraic math problems based on polya’s theory in terms of extrovert and introvert personality types?. This research is expected to be able to find out how the thinking process of students in solving algebraic math problems in students who have extrovert and introvert personality types based on polya’s theory. This study also uses a qualitative method based on the philosophy of positivism, which is based on statistical calculations. The data of this study were taken from the seventh grade students of SMP Islam Cibuluh, with the data collection techniques in this study, namely, (1) a questionnaire or a questionnaire (2) a written test and (3) an interview. The research instruments used vary according to the need to answer the problem formulation. Among them on personality type, the instrument used is a questionnaire containing 70 numbers, each number has two opposing statements, and students can choose statements according to themselves. In the findings of this study, 4 students were the subject of research with different personalities. subject with Introvert personality consists of two subjects, namely subject I and subject II. In the problem-solving stage, subject I can solve problems, develop a plan for completion or evaluate well, as well as subject II. From the findings summarized by the author, the introvert personality type is more dominant in using conceptual thinking processes. Moderate on subjects III and IV with extrovert personality. In some parts it is still not mature enough to solve the problem although it can still be solved quite well. So that the thinking process used tends to use semi-conceptual thinking processes. Thus, this study concludes using the polya theory, that students with introverted personalities find it easier to solve algebraic math problems with special, simple and concise character questions. Meanwhile, students with extroverted personalities find it easier to solve algebraic math problems with more general and universal character questions.
