Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the problem solving ability of students in the online learning process at SMP Negeri 1 Teras. The type of this research is qualitative with the subject of 4 students of class VIII A SMP Negeri 1 Teras which are grouped into 2 categories, namely (1) high category problem solving ability, (2) low category problem solving ability. Data were obtained using tests and interviews. Data analysis techniques used in this study are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The problem-solving indicators are understanding the problem, planning a solution, implementing a settlement plan, and interpreting the results obtained. Based on the results of the study showed that students in the high category were able to solve problems by mastering at least three problem solving indicators. Students understand the problems that exist by writing down what is known and asked. Students are also able to plan solutions and carry out completion plans properly and correctly. And for the stage of interpreting the solutions obtained, students are able to write down the conclusions obtained. Meanwhile, students with low category are only able to master two problem solving indicators. Students have not been able to solve problems using the problem-solving stages. Students have difficulty understanding the problem, determining a solution plan, and re-checking the answers. students are able to write down the conclusions obtained.
