Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of quenching and tempering 450°C on the microstructure, hardness and toughness in nodular cast iron. The material in this study using the material nodular cast iron with a length of 150 mm, a width of 150 mm and thickness 30 mm. Test specimens processed with the initial step austenitizing temperature of 850°C holding time 30 minutes. Then diquenching with the cooling medium of water. After quenching, heat treatment tempering temperature of 450°C and holding time of 60 minutes and pendingian the open air. The results of testing the hardness after quenching process of raw material cooling medium of water increased by 133.17% (56.73 HRC). The results of testing the hardness after tempering process against quenching media cooling open air decreased by 27.18% (41.37 HRC). The price impact after the quenching process of raw material cooling medium of water decreased by 17.07% (0.068 J/mm2). The price impact after the tempering process against quenching media cooling open air increased by 61.76% (0.110 J/mm2).
