Abstract

In the development of teacher education becomes an important key in various learning namely educating, teaching, guiding, training and assessing. In realizing the goals of national education, character education is a major milestone for the realization of these goals. Building character from an early age is one of the goals of national education. Currently the urgency of character cultivation is the lack of moral ethics. The activity carried out by a religious teacher in instilling the character of his students in educational institutions is one of the efforts or endeavors to straighten and instill noble character. In this regard, the authors conducted a study that aims to examine the methods of Islamic religious education teachers (PAI) in inculcating student character in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Karanganyar and the factors that influence the cultivation of student character. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The type of research used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative. The data analysis method used in this study is the Hilles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. Based on the research that has been carried out, it can be seen that the methods used by Islamic religious education teachers in inculcating student character at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Karanganyar include the exemplary method, the habituation method, the method of inculcating discipline, the method of advice, the method of extracurricular activities, and the story method. Supporting factors in planting this character are the motivation and support of parents, as well as adequate facilities and infrastructure. While the inhibiting factors for the cultivation of student character are the background of students, lack of awareness of students, and the environment or student association
