Abstract

This study is aimed to reveal the social class and describe about social class conflict reflected in novel Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. In this research, the writer uses sociological approach to analyze this novel. Researchers use two primary and secondary data sources. The primary data is the Crazy Rich Asians novel by Kevin Kwan in 2013. The secondary data sources supporting this research include literary books, websites, dictionaries, journals, and some articles related to novels. The method of writing this article is a qualitative description method. Regarding the discovery and analysis of social class differences in the novel. This class difference is due to the existence of social class groups, which divide their social classes into upper class and middle class. The difference in social class is measured by power or wealth, privilege and prestige, and affects the status, lifestyle, habits, and behaviors of the upper and middle classes. Therefore, the gap between the two classes is very significant. Conflicts due to differences in social class are1) conflict Rachel Chu and Young’s family, 2) conflict Michele Teo and Leong’s family, 3) conflict Colin Khoo’s family, 4) conflict Rachel Chu and Nicholas Young.
