Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of caregivers in improving children's discipline in the Muhammadiyah Orphanage Family Orphanage, along with the efforts, obstacles, and solutions. This research is located at the Muhammadiyah Orphanage Orphanage in the city of Surakarta, with data collection methods using observation, interviews, and documentation. The indicators used are being present on time, doing assignments according to predetermined time, obeying rules and regulations, and participating in all activities. The validity of the data in this study used triangulation of data collection techniques and data sources. Data analysts used flow models including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the level of discipline of children in the Muhammadiyah Orphanage Family of Surakarta had activities in the form of worship, learning activities, daily routine activities, and extracurricular activities. Discipline in these activities, there are children who are late in carrying out prayers, especially during dawn prayers, do not pay attention to learning activities, talk with friends (gojekan), there are children sleeping during learning activities and do not participate in activities, and there are children who do not do, collect chores, sleeping, going out when the time is not over, fighting among foster children, talking dirty, and calling friends by other names. Efforts are made, namely by reprimanding the child concerned, advising the child in public and in private, and giving sanctions, before prayer time arrives the caregiver walks around to remind the child to prepare for prayer in congregation. The obstacles faced are the different character of the child and the child's background. The solution given is to give a score, go home for one week, after completion the parent / guardian and the child concerned returns to sign a statement letter and is given advice by the manager of the education and care sector, if the child gets a statement letter 3 times then the child is returned to his family.
