Abstract

The hypothesis in this study is that there is a relationship between social support and self-regulation with academic stress on students at the Faculty of Psychology UMS. The population of this research is the students of the Faculty of Psychology UMS. From this population, the researcher took 344 samples using simple Purposive sampling technique. This research method uses a quantitative approach, with academic stress as the dependent variable (Y) and social support (X1) and self-regulation (X2) as independent variables. The data analysis technique used multiple regression analysis by fulfilling the normality and linearity tests. The results of the major hypothesis analysis seen from the ANOVA table show the F value of 33,955 with sig. 0.000 < 0.01 means that there is a and very significant relationship between social support and self-regulation with academic stress, it can be concluded that the major hypothesis of this study is accepted. The results of the minor hypothesis analysis show the correlation value between academic stress and social support (r) = -0.398 with sig. 0.000 < 0.01 means that there is a very significant relationship between academic stress and social support. The results of the minor hypothesis analysis also show the correlation value between academic stress and self-regulation (r) = -0.297 with sig. 0.000 < 0.01 means that there is a significant relationship between academic stress and self-regulation. The effective contribution of the two independent variables in influencing academic stress as the dependent variable is 16.6% with details of social support affecting academic stress by 13.5% and self-regulation affecting academic stress by 3.1%, while 83.4% is influenced by the variable other.
