Abstract

Industrial and non-industrial waste that can be used for various fields, including the construction sector, one of which is paving blocks. Paving blocks are an innovation in the development of concrete. Paving blocks are composed of fine aggregate, cement, and water, used to replace asphalt or road surface layers in housing, parking lots, parks, and sidewalks. Oil palm mill boiler ash is a pozzolanic material with a minimum amount of SiO2, Al2O3, and FeO3 is 50%. Fly ash contains chemical elements including silica (SiO2), alumina (Al2O3), ferrous oxide (Fe2 O3) and calcium oxide (CaO), also contains other additional elements, namely magnesium oxide (MgO), titanium oxide (TiO2), alkaline (Na2 O and K2 O), sulfur trioxide (SO3), phosphorus oxide (P2 O5) and carbon. Sawdust ash is processed by burning for several hours, the resulting ash is sifted using a filter no. 200. This research was conducted by means of a literature study, namely a method carried out by searching for materials related or supporting in solving problems through articles, books and journals that related to the problem of compressive strength and water absorption, then abstracting the contents of the journal, comparing the same points, namely the percentage of 10% and the ratio between cement and sand of 1: 6, analyzing, and concluding the results along with comparisons from the selected journals. The added materials used are oil palm boiler ash with percentages of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, fly ash with percentages of 0%, 5%, and sawdust ash with percentages of 0%, 10%, 15%, 20 %, and 25%. Of the three materials, sawdust ash is the best added material because it has a high compressive strength value and low water absorption compared to the other two additives. Based on the comparison, the greatest compressive strength value was obtained from the added material of sawdust ash, which was 11.083 MPa, and the water absorption value was 7.83%. Of the three added materials, oil palm boiler ash is not suitable for use because it does not meet the quality classification of paving blocks, and for added materials fly ash and sawdust can be included in the quality classification.
