Abstract

Abstract The rail brake block is one of the most important components in the braking system. Nodular cast iron is one of the materials that can be used as a railway brake block material. This test aims to compare the results between mathematical calculations (manual) and simulations using the finite element method. The component modeling process uses SolidWorks 2016 software and finite element method analysis uses Abaqus/CAE 6.14-5 software. The results of mathematical calculations (manual) obtained the thrust value of 4173.8 N and brake block stress of 0.1633 N/mm2. The results of the finite element method analysis obtained a maximum stress value of 0.1608 N/mm2. Comparison of the simulation process with mathematical calculations (manual) obtained a deviation of 1.555%. This price deviation is acceptable because it is less than 5%. Keywords : Railway brake block, Finite element method, Abaqus / CAE 6.14-5
