Abstract

Schools are essentially not places for teachers to convey knowledge through various subjects, but schools are educational institutions that carry out business and process the formation of character values. Character formation is an effort to overcome the problem of moral crisis. Forming character in schools can be through school culture. With a school culture, students will be accustomed to behave and act according to the values of Islamic teachings. SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Karanganyar is a vocational school in Karanganyar district that prioritizes character building, especially the Islamic character of students. Apart from learning in class, character building can also be done through school culture. The formation of Islamic character through school culture is implemented through activities that become the habits of school residents, both general and religious. This study aims to determine the school culture in the formation of the Islamic character of students through school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Karanganyar. This research is a field research using data collection methods in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Karanganyar is implemented well and is able to form the Islamic character of students through activities such as dhuha prayer, congregational prayer, tadarus Al-Qur'an, prayer, rice collection, recitation, Ramadan pesantren, program 5S (Smile, Regards, Greet, Politeness), discipline program, dress discipline, time discipline, courteus, love cleanliness, achievement program, democracy program, and 5R/S program (Seiso – Clean, Seiri – Brief, Seiton – Neat, Seiketsu – Take care, Shitsuke – Diligent).
