Abstract
The incidence of food poisoning and digestive diseases all around us is increasing. Based on data from the POM Agency, it is known that there were 57 news of poisoning and 53 outbreaks in 2017. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the number of germs on dishes washed using detergent and liquid soap. This type of research is an experiment with a pretest-posttest design without a control group. Sampling was done by random sampling by lottery, the total sample was 6 plates. The statistical test used the T-test, namely the Independent Samples Test. The results showed that the average number of germs on dishes washed with detergent was 136.67 colonies/cm², while those washed with liquid soap were 32.5 colonies/cm². The conclusion of this study was that there was no significant difference between the use of detergent and liquid soap on the number of germs on the dishes (p = 0.348 > 0.01). It is recommended for the public to be able to choose dishwashing materials that can reduce germs, consider the impact on the environment and its practical use for the community
