Abstract

Solopos is one of the mass media located in the city of Surakarta. Paragraphs in the news must contain cohesion and coherence between the first paragraph and the next paragraph. This study has a purpose, namely (1) to analyze the grammatical and lexical cohesion forms contained in political discourse in the January – February 2021 edition of the Solopos newspaper. (2) To analyze the coherence forms found in the political discourse in the January – February 2021 edition of the Solopos newspaper. And (3) Describe the use of cohesion and coherence in political discourse in the January–February 2021 edition of the Solopos newspaper as a supplement to Indonesian Class VIII teaching materials. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method. The data in this study are sentences in political news in the Solopos newspaper which contain cohesion and coherence. The data sources in this study are documents in the form of political news in the January – February 2021 edition of the Solopos newspaper. The data collection techniques used in this study are listening, note-taking, and documentation techniques. Data analysis techniques that can be used in this study are the agih method and the matching method. The validity of the data in this study used triangulation of sources and theories. The results of this study are (1) there is grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion in the discourse of political news in the Solopos newspaper. The grammatical cohesion found in this study is conjunction, reference, substitution. Meanwhile, the lexical cohesion found in this study are repetition, synonymy, hyponymy, antonymy, and collocation. unsigned coherence. Marked coherence includes temporal relationships, contrasting relationships, chronological relationships, causal relationships, sequential relationships, additive relationships, detail relationships, and periancial relationships. And (3) the results of this study can be used as a supplement to teaching materials for Indonesian language learning for class VIII odd semesters in accordance with KD (Basic Competence) 4.2, namely presenting data and information in the form of news orally and in writing by paying attention to structure, language, or oral aspects ( pronunciation, intonation, expression, and kinesics).
