Abstract

Reactive power is the power required for the generation of magnetic fields in equipment containing coils. In the distribution of energy there are several problems including voltage drop, low power factor and power losses. The load on the distribution network can be in the form of capacitive and inductive loads. If the inductive load is higher, it will result in increasing power losses, lowering the power factor and reducing the power distribution capacity. To reduce the inductive load required capacitive load. The capacitive load can be in the form of a capacitor bank. One of the users of high inductive loads is the hospital. This research was conducted at one of the hospitals in the city of Yogyakarta which was supplied from PLN 1730 kVA. This research was conducted using ETAP 12.6.0 software with load flow analysis. The use of a capacitor bank is very influential in improving the power factor in a hospital in the city of Yogyakarta. From the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the value of the reactive power of the load before compensation is 1,471 kVAR and after the addition of the capacitor, the reactive power becomes 886 kVAR. The active power loss before the use of the capacitor bank was 38.2 kW and after the use of the capacitor bank it was 36.4 kW, while the reactive power loss before the use of the capacitor bank was 155 kVAR and after the use of the capacitor bank it was 120.1 kVAR.
