Abstract

The transportation are developing towards being more environmental friendly by utilizing alternative energy to change fossil energy. Electric vehicles are a certainty that we will face in the future to support daily activities because of the difficulty in obtaining alternative energy sources. Electric bicycles can be a solution for mobilization for short to medium distance purposes. To accommodate these needs, electric bicycles can be developed towards mass transportation which can be rented out by agencies or transportation service providers. In this study, we will discuss how the electric bicycle rental and security system in the University environment. Electric bicycles that are integrated with a solar charge station can be rented using an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) card that contains rental time data. The user scans the RFID card on the instrument to select a bike on the paddock. If the time data on the card is not available then the user cannot choose his bike. The time difference on this system gets good results under 1 second. The security system on the paddock will lock the bike when not in use and unlock the bike when the bike is selected by the user. Meanwhile, to prevent theft when used, the bicycle is equipped with a GPS (Global Positioning System). The GPS error distance gets an average of 4.89 meters. Electric bike use 350W BLDC motor with 36V 10Ah battery with a maximum speed of up to 30 km/hour and can cover a distance of 42.9 km when the battery is fully charged.
