Abstract

Background: Conditions of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia if not treated immediately will cause serious complications in people with diabetes mellitus. This can be prevented by increasing one of the pillars of diabetes mellitus, namely knowledge so that patients can control blood sugar levels to remain normal. Objective: to describe the knowledge of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in people with diabetes mellitus at Karangpandan Health Center. Methods: type of research is quantitative with a research design that is descriptive survey. The research sample was 267 samples from a total population of 621 people with diabetes mellitus. This study used a simple random sampling technique. Data analysis in the form of frequency distribution and percentage. Results: This study concluded that the characteristics of the respondents were mostly female, aged 46-65 years, elementary school education, not working, long suffering <5 years, had hyperglycemia, never experienced hypoglycemia, received information about hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia from health services, have good knowledge of hyperglycemia and have less knowledge of hypoglycemia. Conclusion: respondents' knowledge of hyperglycemia in the category of good knowledge and knowledge of respondents about hypoglycemia in the category of poor knowledge.
