Abstract

Plants contain many chemical compounds. Some disease treatments have made use of natural ingridients. Some herbs can be used as a medicine traditionally like herbs basil (Ocimum basilicum L) and fragants pandanus (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb). This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity combination of extracts of Basil Leaves and Fragants Pandanus Leaves on the growth of Salmonella typhimurium. This type of research is experimental. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by using the paper disk method. Antibacterial activity is characterized by the formation of a clear zone around the paper disc which is called the inhibition zone. This study used 6 concentration treatments, namely 5%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%, chloramphenicol as a positive control and DMSO as a negative control. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal Wallis Test. Result of the study showed that the concentration of 5% and 12,5% are not formed zone of inhibition, while at a concentration of 25% was formed zone resistor with an average diameter of 6,5 + 0,0000 mm, at a concentration of 50% amounted to 5,83+ 0,2887 mm, at concentrations of 75% amounting to 9,3+ 1,5275 mm, and a concentration fo 100% is the concentration of the most excellent in forming zone of inhibition with a diameter of area constraints of 13 mm. Based on the Kruskal Wallis Test result, it is known that there is an effect of the combination of basilnleaf extract and fragrant pandan leaves on the growth of Salmonella typhimurium with a significant value ( α ˂ 0.01). Based on the result of the study it can be concluded that there are significant differences in the use of various concentrations of the combination of basil leaf extract and fragrants pandanus leaves in inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhimurium bacteria.
