Abstract

Falling occurs more frequently with age. Poor physical performance, particularly limb problems and lower balance, is a strong risk factor for falls. Physical inactivity also appears to be linked to an increased risk of falls, such as through muscle weakness. Physical activity is generally positively related to physical performance and muscle strength. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity, Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and the risk of falling in the elderly. The research method uses quantitative methods with a Cross Sectional approach, using the Physical Activities Scale for the Elderly (PASE) questionnaire, The Lawton Instrumental Activity of the Daily Living Scale (IADLs) and the Morse Falls Scale (MFS). The sample used was the elderly as many as 30 respondents who were taken by purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed by using the spearman rank correlation. The data obtained were physical activity as many as 28 people (93.3%), ADL in the independent category as many as 29 people (96.7%), then 19 people (63.3%) were not at risk of falling. The results of statistical tests showed that there was a relationship between physical activity and the risk of falling with p value = 0.044 and there was no significant relationship between Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and the risk of falling with a value of p = 0.067. Hopefully this research can continue and be useful for researchers, medical personnel or the general public.
