Abstract

The purposes of this study is to describe the structure, value of character education in the novel Kala and see the relevance as teaching materials in senior high school. The method used is descriptive qualitative The data in this study are written data of the novel Kala by Stefani Bella and Syahid Muhammad, namely sentences and paragraphs contains structures, character education values and its relevance as teaching materials. The data collection technique used is the library, listening and note technique. The analysis technique used is the semiotic model which includes heuristic and hermeneutic readings. The results showed that 1) The structures in the novel Kala consist of the theme, plot, characterizations, point of view, and setting. 2) Character education contained in the novel Kala, namely 14 values of character education (religious, honest, tolerant, disciplined, hard work, creative, independent, democratic, curiosity, respect for achievement, communicative, love peace, love to read, and responsibility). 3) The relevance of research results as teaching materials is quite relevant in terms of their suitability with KI and KD 3.7 and 4.7 class XI SMA.
