Abstract

This study aims to describe the use, effectiveness, constraints, and alternative solutions to the use of Mind Mapping strategies combined with Guided Note Taking to improve understanding of the values of Indonesian Unity in class VIII-E students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura in the 2020/2021 academic year. This study uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches (mixing methods). The design of the qualitative approach uses a case study, while the quantitative approach uses a pre-experimental design with a One Group Pretest Posttest Design. Quantitative data collection uses the test method, while the qualitative data collection uses observation and interviews. Test the validity of quantitative data collection instruments (in the form of tests) using the Product Moment correlation formula with rough numbers. Test the reliability of the test instrument with the KR 20 formula. The validity of the qualitative data used a credibility test of the type of triangulation of sources and techniques. Quantitative data analysis used Paired Sample T-test. Qualitative data analysis using a flow model. The normality test of the research data used Lilliefors by calculating the normality test of the Pretest and Posttest data. The results showed that the average value of the Pretest was 23.00 and increased to 61.25 in the Posttest. Paired Sample T-test is known that the value of tcount is greater than ttable, namely 45.912 > 1.720. Based on these results, it can be seen that there is an increase in the average value of the Pretest with the Posttest. The proposed hypothesis in the form of Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a difference between before treatment (Pretest) and after treatment (posttest) through the use of Mind Mapping strategies combined with Guided Note Taking in class VIII-E SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura in the 2020/2021 academic year. . This difference indicates an increase in the average score of understanding the values of Indonesian Unity between before (Pretest) and after treatment (Posttest). The obstacle faced is the limited time given. An alternative solution to overcome these obstacles is for researchers to arrive earlier. The conclusion above implies that teachers who want students' understanding of the values of Indonesian Unity to be high, then it is very appropriate to use the Mind Mapping strategy in combination with Guided Note Taking.
