Abstract

This study aims to describe the use, effectiveness, constraints, and solutions of use the strategy of a Mind Mapping combination of Audio Visual media in class VIII-F students of SMP Negeri 1 Karanganyar in the 2020/2021 academic year. This research uses a method combined of quantitative and qualitative approaches (mixing methods). The design approach quantitative uses Pre-experimental with One Group Pretest Posttest Design, while in qualitative using case studies. Quantitative data collection techniques using the method test, while qualitative by observation and interviews. The validity test of the quantitative instrument is used to measure the validity of the test item with the Correlation Formula Product Moment with crude numbers and test instrument reliability test using the KR 20 formula. The validity of the qualitative data uses triangulation of sources and techniques. Quantitative data analysis using Paired Sample T-test. Qualitative data analysis using a flow model. The results showed that the average value (pretest) of 73.3 increased to 84.5 at (prottest). Paired Sampel T-test showed that the value of t-count is greater than t-table, is 7.302 greater than 1.697 at significance 0,05. Based on these results of both data (pretest) and (posttest) it can be concluded that hypothesis Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a difference between before treatment (pretest) and after treatment (posttest) through of the Mind Mapping strategy of a combination of Audio Visual media in class VIII-F students of SMP Negeri 1 Karanganyar. These differences indicate an increase in the average score of understanding the values of Indonesia Democracy before (pretest) and after treatment (posttest). The obstacle feced was the limited time related to the implementation of the research. An alternative solution to overcome these obstacles is for researchers arrive earlier. The conclusion above implies that if the teacher wants students’ understanding of the values of Indonesian Democracy to increase, then it is appropriate to use a mind mapping strategy with a combination of audio-visual media.
