Abstract

This study aims to find out how the effect of manganese element inoculation (FeMn) on hardness values, microstructure photos and SEM EDS test results on gray cast iron material with the addition of FeMn 3%. In this casting process using induction smelting furnace with a temperature of 1300 - 1400 C material used for smelting ie iron (Fe), iron melted then mixed with FeMn 3% after mixing poured into the mold of metal and sand that has been prepared. Hardness test results showed the hardness value of the upper metal mold result of 215 BHN of the middle metal mold of 257 BHN, the lower metal mold of 334 BHN. The hardness value of the upper transition mold is 214 BHN, the middle transition mold is 251 BHN, the lower transition mold is 326 BHN. The hardness value of the upper sand mold is 187 BHN, the middle sand mold is 209 BHN, the bottom sand mold is 229 BHN. Microstructure test results from metal molds, transition molds, sand molds at the bottom are hardest because graphite is neatly arranged and clearly visible. Sem EDS Mn element test results on metal mold results were detected by 3.45% and at 0.00% sand mold, on Mn sand mold results were actually detected on the chart but did not appear on the data table because it was covered by Fe, C, and Si elements.
