Abstract
This research aims (1) to identify the form of spelling errors in the descriptive text of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sambungmacan, (2) to describe the form of spelling improvement in the descriptive text of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sambungmacan. The data of the research are the student’s descriptive text. The data source are language errors in line with spelling in the descriptive text of the students of SMP Negeri 1 Sambungmacan. The technique of data collection using observing and recording. The technique of analysing data using referential equivalents. The analysis was carried out by showing that there were spelling errors in the writing of descriptive text of students at SMP Negeri 1 Sambungmacan. The results of the study included (1) there were 97 word errors in capital letters, (2) there were 2 errors in writing prepositions, and (3) there were 37 errors in punctuation usage. From the results, the most spelling errors in the descriptive text of SMP Negeri 1 Sambungmacan were errors in the use of capital letters.
